The Swan is not just a magazine rack. Its unique properties lie in its multifunctionality. The simple plywood base serves as a storage space for magazines, while the two wing-shaped sidewalls, reminiscent of a swan's open wings, provide lateral support. However, these wings are not just for show. One wing doubles as a small table, while the other features tiny slots for bookmarking, addressing the needs of the modern reader.
The design process involved molding and laser cutting CNC on plywood, resulting in a product that is as sturdy as it is stylish. The Swan's dimensions (H 550 x W 350 x L 720 mm) make it an optimal size for consumers, ensuring ease of use and convenience.
The Swan's design journey began in September 2017, with the final product manufactured in February 2018. The design was based on user behavior, with a focus on the needs of the reader. The addition of a small table section and bookmarking slots on the wings leads to a higher level of efficiency, making the Swan a product that is as useful as it is visually appealing.
The Swan's design faced challenges, particularly in creating a minimal and organic design where form follows function. However, the result is a novel magazine rack that is both practical and aesthetically pleasing. The design's inspiration, the open wings of a swan, is visually represented through the curved sidewalls, adding an element of elegance to the product.
The Swan has been recognized for its innovative design, winning the Silver A' Furniture Design Award in 2018. This prestigious award is given to designs that display outstanding expertise and innovation, and the Swan certainly fits the bill. With its strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, the Swan introduces positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
The Swan is a testament to the power of design and its ability to transform everyday objects into works of art. It is a shining example of how nature can inspire innovation and creativity, resulting in a product that is not only functional but also a visual delight.
